چکیده
bacteriophages are well known in the biopharmaceutical industry, mainly due to their destructive impact on productivity of bacterialbased fermentations necessary for obtaining the product. however, it seems that their positive role may soon dominate their rather grim reputation in the biopharmaceutical industry. in this short editorial the reasons for the failure to fulfill the high hopes that phages brought in the beginning of the 20th century is explained, and their rebirth described. also, the author speculates on the future prospects of the use of phages in health protection.

Construction of Human Recombinant ScFv Phage Libraries from the Advanced Stages of Breast Carcinoma Patients
Advances in the field of antibody engineering, and the emergence of powerful screening technology such as filamentous phage display allowed to generate fully human antibodies with high affinities against virtually any desired target from immune or even naIve human repertoires. As a result, the immunogenicity problems related to applications of nonhuman based recombinant antibodies as therapeuti...
متن کاملAdvancing Chimeric Antigen Receptor-Engineered T-Cell Immunotherapy Using Genome Editing Technologies: Challenges and Future Prospects
Chimeric antigen receptor engineered-T (CAR-T) cells also named as living drugs, have been recently known as a breakthrough technology and were applied as an adoptive immunotherapy against different types of cancer. They also attracted widespread interest because of the success of B-cell malignancy therapy achieved by anti-CD19 CAR-T cells. Current genetic toolbox enabled the synthesis of CARs ...
متن کاملFormation of therapeutic phage cocktail and endolysin to highly multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii: in vitro and in vivo study
Objective(s): Phage therapy is a potential alternative treatment for infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii, a significant nosocomial pathogen, which has evolved resistance to almost all conventional antimicrobial drugs in poor hygiene and conflicts areas such as Iraq. Materials and Methods: Bacteriophages were isolated to highly resistant isolates of A. baumannii to form therapeutic phag...
متن کاملSmall Hydro-Power Plants in Kenya: A Review of Status, Challenges and Future Prospects
Small Hydro-power Plants (SHP) are an important source of electricity in many countries. However, little is known about SHP in Kenya. This paper reviews the status, challenges in implementation of SHP and prospects for future development of SHP in Kenya. The paper shows that SHP has not yet fully utilized the available hydro-power potential. The challenges associated with SHP development should...
متن کاملPhage Therapy: Past History and Future Prospects R. M. Carlton: Phage Therapy in the Past and Future
Bacterial viruses (bacteriophages, also called “phages”) can be robust antibacterial agents in vitro. However, their use as therapeutic agents, during a number of trials from the1920s to the 1950s, was greatly handicapped by a number of factors. In part, there were certain limitations inherent in phage physiology (e. g. narrow host range, and rapid clearance from the body); in part there were t...
